Faculty of Engineering at MEDIU

INTRODUCTION

The faculty of engineering was established in 2011. The faculty of Engineering at MEDIU covers

A range of engineering disciplines including:

Pre Engineering (one year programme )
Diploma in Civil Engineering (Three years Programme )
Bachelor Civil Engineering (Hons) (Four years Programme)
Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Hons) (Four years Programme) (Coming soon)

The University is committed to prepare the graduates for international careers and the faculty places great emphasis on technical, entrepreneurship, management , business skills and engineering technological development . The engineering curriculums are designed to meet the present and future demands both on the local and global scene.

MISSION

Disseminate the engineering knowledge using the best engineering practice and learning method to embrace innovation that would pave the way towards world class stature and knowledge-based research culture.

OBJECTIVES

Provide expertise and facilities for promotion of research, teaching and publication in engineering.
To produce graduates with excellence knowledge and competency in various areas of civil / electrical / mechanical and chemical Engineering.
To produce graduates with professional generic attributes to meet the present and the future global demands
To produce graduates with Islamic humanistic values and reinvention skills to meet the requirement of dynamic environment. These skills include civil intelligence, moral intelligence, self-reliance and communication skills
Provide smart partnership with industries
Offer market-driven programs in technologically advanced university environment, synonymous to a world class entity, in all aspects of Engineers tertiary education such as state-of-the art infrastructure and facilities.

METHOD OF DELIVERY

Fulltime programs with formal lectures, tutorial, practical and industrial attachment

COLLABORATION

Collaboration with industries especially in the area of Facilities, Research and Industrial training. This also means the establishment of an effective networking between the academic and industry, both within and without the country.

In order to realize the mission and vision of the university the Faculty of Engineering shall establish to offer engineering programs at all levels to the world particularly the to the Muslim nations.

Considering the current and future global demand for engineering graduates from the above mentioned branches of engineering.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. PRE-ENGINEERING

(a) A pass in Shahadah Thanawiyyah Ammah examination (compulsory: taken upon the completion of 12 years primary and secondary schools education) with 3 Credits, inclusive of Mathematics; OR

(b) Five credit inclusive of Mathematics and Physics or Science in the SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia); OR

(c) Five credit inclusive of Mathematics and Physics in the General Certificate of Education ordinary Level (GCE) ‘O’ Level Examination (UK Education System); OR

(d) Any other certificate or qualification that is recognized by the University’s Academic Board as equivalent to one of the above.

2. DIPLOMA IN ENGINEERING

(a) A pass in Shahadah Thanawiyyah Ammah examination (compulsory: taken upon the completion of 12 years primary and secondary schools education) with 3 Credits, inclusive of Mathematics and sciences; OR

(b) Five (5) Credits including Mathematics and sciences in SPM/SPMV or in the General Certificate of Education ‘Ordinary Level’ (GCE) ‘O’ Level Examination (UK Education System) or their equivalent; OR

(c) Any other certificate or qualification that is recognized by the University’s Academic Board as equivalent to one of the above.

3. BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING

(a) A pass in Shahadah Thanawiyyah Ammah examination (compulsory: taken upon the completion of 12 years primary and secondary schools education) with 3 Credits, inclusive of Mathematics; OR

(b) Five credit inclusive of Mathematics and Physics in the SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia); OR

(c) Five credit inclusive of Mathematics and Physics in the General Certificate of Education ordinary Level (GCE) ‘O’ Level Examination (UK Education System); OR

(d) Five credit in SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) with credit in mathematics, additional mathematics, science, English, Bahasa Malayu or Arabic Language or Equivalent qualifications

(e) Any other certificate or qualification that is recognized by the University’s Academic Board as equivalent to one of the above.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

English Language

Where the medium of instruction of a course is English and if applicant’s first language is other than English, applicants are required to obtain a score of either:

550 TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or
6.0 band IELTS (International English Language Testing Service)

Applicants, who do not have either of the above qualifications, are required to pass MEDIU’s English Placement Test (MEPT) with a minimum 6.0 points.

DURATION OF THE COURSE

Pre-Engineering programs- (1) year

Diploma in Engineering- (3) years

Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) – (4) years

INDUSTRY ATTACHMENT

Students are required to undergo compulsory industrial attachment in the public and private sectors for at least 3 months during the degree course. Each students is required to submit a satisfactory report on each of his/her practical training periods

INDUSTRIAL VISITS

Visits to industries and/or constructions sites are arranged for the students each year of the course. The visits are considered equivalent to practical subjects in the laboratory

ASSESSMENT SYSTEM AND EXAMINATION

Assessment of the students programs consist of course work/assignments, test, quizzes, tutorial, practical reports, presentation/oral and examination
